CELBANPrep is an educational practice that began with CELBAN preparation and has grown into a larger way of supporting Internationally Educated Health Professionals Worldwide.

CELBANPrep was founded by Kim Kara, M.Ed., in 2009.

It began with a practical question:

> How can Internationally Educated Nurses develop the English-language and communication abilities they need for healthcare practice in Canada?

The work began with CELBAN preparation.

But the longer the work continued, the clearer it became that preparing for a language examination was only one part of what people were actually trying to do.

They were trying to understand Canadian healthcare communication.

They were trying to develop language skills.

They were trying to return to their professions.

They were trying to rebuild confidence after difficult examination experiences.

They were trying to build a life.

And sometimes, they were simply trying to understand:

What do I need to do next?

CELBANPrep has continued to evolve in response to those questions.

A Simple Definition

> CELBANPrep is the educational work founded by Kim Kara, M.Ed., that helps Internationally Educated Nurses and other Internationally Educated Health Professionals develop English-language, communication, learning, and professional skills for healthcare practice and professional integration in moderately demanding to demanding situations (maintaining patient health and safety) in Canada.

The work includes CELBAN preparation, but it is not limited to preparing for an examination.

CELBANPrep has developed into a landscape of knowledge, resources, structured learning, live learning, reflection, and exploration with several independent yet interconnected nodes.

The different parts exist because different people need different kinds of support at different points in their journeys.
