Dear-Kim is a living collection of questions, stories, worries, hopes, disappointments, breakthroughs, and answers from Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) and Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs navigating CELBAN, English-language development, professional transition, and life in Canada.
It began with a simple idea:
> Someone asked a question.
Kim answered.
Perhaps someone else needed the answer too.
Over time, those letters became something much larger.
They became a record of what people actually ask when they are trying to find their way.
Dear-Kim is not only a blog.
It is a human archive of the CELBAN journey.
What Is Dear-Kim?
Dear-Kim is a collection of real questions from IENs and IEHPs, together with thoughtful responses from Kim Kara, M.Ed.
The questions began as personal emails.
People wrote because they were confused.
They wrote because they were discouraged.
They wrote because they had failed.
They wrote because they did not know where to begin.
They wrote because they had limited time.
They wrote because they were working, studying, immigrating, caring for families, rebuilding careers, learning English, and trying to understand an unfamiliar professional system all at once.
And oftentimes they wrote because they had passed.
They wanted to tell someone.
They just wanted to thank Kim.
Those questions and stories became Dear-Kim.
Since the earliest posts, the collection has grown into a substantial body of questions about CELBAN preparation, communication, writing, speaking, reading, listening, study strategies, IELTS versus CELBAN, professional transition, confidence, discouragement, and the emotional reality of becoming a healthcare professional in Canada.
Why Does Dear-Kim Exist?
Because sometimes a person does not need another instruction.
Sometimes they need to know:
“Has someone else felt this way?”
The CELBAN journey is often described as an examination-preparation problem.
But the lived experience can be much larger.
An IEN may be preparing for CELBAN while:
adapting to life in Canada. ✅

waiting for regulatory or examination steps. ✅
learning Canadian healthcare communication. ✅

Dear-Kim gives those experiences a place to be seen.

One of the unusual strengths of Dear-Kim is its origin.
These are not questions invented because they might make useful website content.
They came from people who were actually trying to navigate the CELBAN journey.
That gives the collection a different kind of educational value.
