What Is CELBANPrep University?

CELBANPrep University is an online learning environment created by Kim Kara, M.Ed., founder of CELBANPrep.

It brings together structured courses, skill-development resources, videos, interactive activities, and guided learning pathways for Internationally Educated Health Professionals.

The University began with a focus on helping Internationally Educated Nurses prepare for CELBAN.

Its purpose has grown.

Today, the learning environment extends beyond the examination to include the communication abilities, language development, and professional skills that healthcare professionals need in Canada.

The examination may be the immediate goal.

The communication ability is the larger purpose.

CELBANPrep University was created primarily for Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs).

This includes:

and other healthcare professionals developing English communication for healthcare in Canada.

The University is particularly relevant to learners who want to move from:

Three Ways to Learn at CELBANPrep University

CELBANPrep University has three established learning pathways:

The Information Centre

The Bronze Bundle is the beginning point for learners who are new to CELBAN or uncertain about where to begin.

It provides an opportunity to explore CELBAN, evaluate where you are, understand the preparation landscape, and discover the resources available to you.

The current Information Centre includes self-study materials and introductory resources such as e-books, quizzes, videos, flashcards, discovery workbooks, and access to the wider CELBANPrep resource environment.

Bronze is about orientation.

Silver => Develop

The Resource Centre

The Silver Bundle is the skill-development pathway.

It is designed as an intensive for Internationally Educated Nurses who have taken the CELBAN, have their results and the feedback report that accompany them, and seek to integrate that feedback so that their score increases for future attempts.

The Resource Centre includes four skill areas:

Reading
Writing
Listening
Speaking

The Silver pathway is particularly useful for IENs who have received CELBAN feedback and want to use that information to identify and work on areas for development.

The current Silver program includes four modules, 24 lessons, and 40 videos over 8+ weeks.

Silver is about development.

Gold => Integrate

The Learning Centre

The Gold Bundle is for learners who are ready to work more deliberately on their communication abilities. The GOLD Bundle is both for IENs preparing for the CELBAN and Internationally Educated Health Professionals seeking the broader professional and communication-development pathway of Stage II and III of the CLB.

The Learning Centre currently includes three courses:

(WW) Wonderful Writing

Develop writing through planning, organization, editing, systematic writing, incident reports, medical topics, voice, and technology.

(E2Q) Essential EQ

Explore emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, readiness to engage, difficult situations, and communication.

(C3) Canadian Culture and Communication

Explore Canadian cultural and communication contexts relevant to professional life and healthcare in Canada.

Together, the three courses create a broader learning environment that moves beyond simply preparing for an exam into individual language skills required for professional communication and integration in healthcare settings and situations.

The current Gold pathway includes three modules, 36 lessons, and 50 videos over 12 weeks.

Gold is about integration.

What Makes CELBANPrep University Different?

CELBANPrep University grew from years of working directly with Internationally Educated Health Professionals.

Since 2009, CELBANPrep has developed resources and learning experiences around the particular communication demands faced by healthcare professionals developing English in Canada.

The University reflects that history.

It is not general English instruction with healthcare vocabulary added afterward.

The learning environment is built around the relationship between:

That relationship matters because healthcare communication is not only about producing grammatically correct English.

About the University

CELBANPrep University was created by Kim Kara, M.Ed., founder of CELBANPrep.

The work began in 2009 with support for Internationally Educated Nurses preparing for CELBAN and has developed into a broader English Language Mastery and professional communication learning environment for Internationally Educated Health Professionals.

The University has evolved from earlier CELBAN preparation resources into an app-based virtual campus with an Information Centre, Resource Centre, and Learning Centre.

The underlying purpose has remained consistent:

To help healthcare professionals develop the communication abilities needed for their work in moderately demanding to demanding medical contexts: in Canada.
